Flank Steak 3 Ways

Choosing a cut of steak at the grocery store can be quite overwhelming! We love cooking with different cuts of steak here at Citizen Chef, but one of our newest obsessions is Flank Steak. Relatively inexpensive, this type of cut is from the belly muscle of a cow and is high in flavor without much fat. The trick to cooking flank steak is to get it as tender as possible by marinating it for hours and putting it on a hot grill for just a short time.

Our Chipotle Adobo sauce lends itself perfectly to steaks. We grilled one pound of steak, which makes four portions of our dishes below, but if it’s your main course and you’re hungry you might want to get a little more!

Chipotle Adobo Flank Steak

Serves 4

Total cooking time: 10 minutes

What You’ll Need:

1 pound flank steak

1 cup Citizen Chef Chipotle Adobo Sauce

How to Cook:

1. Marinate your flank steak in the Chipotle Adobo Sauce for 30 minutes or up to 24 hours.

2. Preheat your grill to high.

3. Grill the steak 5-6 minutes on the first side and about 4-5 on the second for medium rare.

4. Remove the steak from the grill once it is done to your liking. Let it rest 10 minutes before cutting it against the grain.

1. Steak Salad

Toss your steak with arugula, tomatoes, goat cheese, avocado, and pepitas for a restaurant worthy meal (easily assembled) at home!

2. Steak Sandwich

Build a sandwich on French bread with thinly sliced steak, arugula, blue cheese, tomato, and mustard.

3. Steakadilla

Make a steak quesadilla on the stovetop or grill by folding black beans, shredded cheese, avocado, steak in the tortilla of your choice and heating each side until the cheese is melted.
